Professional Development Training in BodyDreaming®

The term BodyDreaming refers to a state of consciousness where the body’s innate wisdom is made accessible. Just as the dreaming state reveals psyche’s wisdom or soul dreams, the body too has a state of consciousness that when invited brings forth its pearls of insight. The BodyDreaming approach encourages us to enter and explore this state of expanded consciousness, via an embodied practice that helps to ground psychotherapy, and ensoul somatic practice. It offers a unique combination of the psychology of C.G. Jung, BodySoul Rhythms® of Marion Woodman, the trauma therapy Somatic Experiencing of Peter Levine, neuroscience, attachment and developmental theory.

The training programme is anchored in Marian Dunlea’s book, BodyDreaming in the Treatment of Developmental Trauma: An Embodied Therapeutic Approach. The work is experientially based and allows participants to learn the somatic skills necessary to follow and regulate the currents of the Autonomic Nervous System that is so challenged in these extraordinary times.

We draw on Jung’s vision of the Self, a guiding intelligence which Jung says must be rooted in the body. The autonomic nervous system prompts and feeds the mythopoetic. The inner world of the psyche, dreams and images resonates in the cells, in the tissue, in the organs, in the musculature, in the bones of the body.

Learning the skills needed to titrate emotional overwhelm deepens our sense of rootedness in our bodies and our surroundings. The capacity to regulate our systems is key to working with all manner of trauma. A more coherent and regulated system supports us to experience life with greater ease and pleasure, to connect with each other, to our surrounds and to be more available to our dreams and the numinous.

The BodyDreaming training is designed for those interested in healing, the arts, and living well – ecologists, psychologists, psychotherapists, somatic therapists, coaches, artists and creative minds.

Each training weekend will comprise of theory and practice, experiential learning, embodied practice sessions, dream work, movement, voice work, ritual, and art. We work in large group sessions and in small break-out practice sessions. A team of assistants provides containment and
guidance for the small break out practice sessions, with an assistant present in each.

Requirements and Recommendations to complete the training

The BodyDreaming training is organised into nine modules, taught quarterly (four modules per year).

In order to receive the Certificate of Completion participants are required to:

1. Attend and participate in all nine modules. (Each module costs €419.)

2. Complete two individual sessions with an Assistant or Faculty member between each module, totaling 16 sessions over the training period. (Each session costs €50. Additional sessions with an assistant, if requested, will be charged at the practitioner’s standard rate.)

3. Join a practice/study group that meets between modules to practice exercises and review together the relevant chapter from the BodyDreaming book. It is required that each practice/study group meets with an assistant once between modules. Sessions should reference the reading for the last-attended module. The practice/study group meeting with an assistant costs €20 per person (or a minimum €80 per session).

4. It is strongly recommended that participants attend an in-person BodyDreaming / BodySoul workshop on fairy tale or mask work when appropriate
